Synopsis: This story is a light-hearted but also serious look at the contrast between heaven and earth and takes place near the time when Christmas is being celebrated on earth. The two characters are an angel and Jeremy and mainly takes place in an office.
Opening scene/camera at eye level/angel is playing with a toy train on his desk quietly saying "chugga-chugga-choo-choo". Jeremy enters the room/angel clears his throat and says "oh, hi I was ah, just ah, testing the track...
Jeremy: Who are you and where am I?
Angel: I am the angel of admissions and you, Jeremy, are in heaven.
Jeremy: This is heaven?!
Angel: Well you see, uh - it's actually the admissions office. If I just brought you right into heaven you wouldn't be able to take it - it would be too overwhelming - it would kill ya! (laughs)
Jeremy: That's not funny!
Angel: Sorry.
Jeremy: (stutters) So, so I am dead?
Angel: Well, uh, yes and no. Your physical body is but you shall soon be transformed into a glorious body. You see when...
Jeremy: (interrupts) You mean I didn't make it to Christmas? Everyone was praying I would survive my disease long enough to make it to Christmas. Why didn't God heal me? I can't believe...
Angel: Well, uh, Jeremy - excuse me - he did!
Jeremy: (angrily) That's not what I meant!
Angel: I know you would have preferred a miracle...
Jeremy: (interrupting) Do you know how hard this will be for my family - my wife, my kids - my brother and sisters?
Angel: Yes, leaving can be difficult. No doubt about...
Jeremy: (angrily/interrupting) Difficult?!?!?
I can't imagine the pain they are going through right now!
Angel: No you can't, but God can. I remember it well - when Jesus left heaven. It sure was different here when he left let me tell ya. He left the glories of heaven to be born in a lowly stinkin' stable - grew up and lived a sinless life and ministered to thousands - only later to be crucified on an old cross for the sins of the world. (pause) Jeremy, God knows the pain your family is going through right now. And he is not leaving them without comfort - they have peace that passes all understanding and are not mourning as the world mourns - because they know you are in heaven...
Jeremy: (interrupts) Admissions Office!!!!!
Angel: Nonetheless an office of heaven.
Jeremy: Well, this isn't what comes to mind when I hear the song "I can only imagine".
Angel: That will come in due time Jeremy, in due time.
Jeremy: (Jeremy now sitting with arms on legs and hands holding his head/contemplative/quieter) Angel, what kind of Christmas will they have?
Angel: Only God knows that. I'm not omniscient you know. It WILL be difficult - but your family will be stronger and closer than they ever have.
Jeremy: I thought you said you weren't omniscient.
Angel: Just past experience - you Have a good family you know.
Jeremy: HAD!!!!
Angel: Oh no, have - you see, they are believers and they are strongly committed to the Lord and will eventually join you for all eternity.
Jeremy: So they'll make it through this Christmas?
Angel: By the grace of God - last time I checked His grace was still sufficient.
Jeremy: Why would and angel need trains?
Angel: Who said "need"? Besides, heaven isn't sitting on clouds while you're playing a harp - unless of course you like that sort of thing.
Jeremy: Angel, you have an interesting office. When I came in I was departing but was also arriving all at the same time...(pause) Angel, when do I get to see my Savior?
Angel: Yes - I think you are ready now, aren't you. Good old Phillipians 3:20-21.
Jeremy: What does that verse say?
Angel: Oh you will know soon enough - let's go now shall we?
(Angel and Jeremy walk down a hallway with scripture verse superimposed. Angel opens door to let Jeremy in. Special effects - brilliant light shines upon them/sound effects tbd./fade to black/the words "Merry Christmas" come up on the screen with audio of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus.)
