AWANA

APPROVED WORKMEN ARE NOT ASHAMED!

That’s what AWANA is all about!   It is truly our desire with the AWANA program – as well as everything we do within Children’s Ministries - to reach children with the Gospel of Christ and to train them to serve Him.

Our AWANA program meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. from September through the end of the school year.  Under the leadership of our AWANA Co-Commanders Lynn Altman and Kevin White, we have the following “clubs”:

Cubbies – The Cubbies program is for children who turned 3 before September 1st and for pre-k age children.  Cubbies enjoy storytime, fun games and activities and learn small Bible verses.

Sparks – Sparkies are made up of kindergarten through 2nd graders.

Truth in Training (TNT) – TNT is for 3rd – 6th graders.

Sparks and TNT begin the evening with a formal flag ceremony and prayer and then divide the rest of their evening between 3 segments of activities: Game Time, Council Time, and Handbook Time.

Formal Flag Ceremony
This ceremony takes place in the gym and creates an attitude of cooperation and unity that sets a high standard for the rest of the club meeting. It also provides and excellent opportunity to teach clubbers respect for their flag and country.

Game Time
Game Time is the club segment when clubbers are involved in fun games. The games are a blast! The kids love game time! The games are designed to encourage Christian sportsmanship & teamwork. Game Time also prepares clubbers for the Awana Games Invitational.

Council Time
Bible lessons are taught by our Awana leaders and are age appropriate material to challenge each student where they are!

Handbook Time
During this segment, clubbers will work in their individual Handbooks learning and reciting sections. Each handbook contains approximately 90 verses to support Bible truths taught. Children have the opportunity to learn over 900 Scripture verses if they complete all handbooks in Cubbies through 6th grade.

Club Dues

Club Dues are $15.00 for the whole year and help pay for awards, trophies, and AWANA store items*.   Clubbers are also asked to pay for their handbooks and vests or t-shirts.  However, this is this is church – anyone can come and fully participate in AWANA regardless of ability to pay. If money is an issue, discreetly mention it to someone at the Family Life Center desk on Wednesday evening and he or she will get your child completely set up with everything needed and no one will know.

*The AWANA Store is open for Sparks and TNT kids at the end of each semester.  They earn “AWANA Bucks” throughout the year by learning their verses and passing off sections in their handbooks.  They can then spend their AWANA Bucks on real items at the AWANA Store at the end of each semester.  The kids look forward to it and it’s a great incentive.

At FBCRH, AWANA strongly emphasizes memorizing and understanding God’s Word. Psalms 119:11 says, “Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against thee.” Our prayer is that the verses our children learn in AWANA will help them to live Christ honoring lives.
